Video monitoring for protection against bridge construction theft
Bridge constructions are among the masterpieces of modern building technology. Nowadays, bridges are built in all sizes and from a wide variety of materials. Motorway bridges span whole valleys, sometimes over several thousands of metres. The network of national trunk roads alone comprises 39,500 bridges. Older bridges have to be modernised or replaced by a new construction in order to adapt to the increasing demands of traffic. Bridge construction requires corresponding machines and materials ranging from concrete and composite steel to pure steel. But thefts regularly occur on construction sites and there are incidents of vandalism. Building containers are broken open to get hold of tool boxes, welding equipment and construction machines. The material damage is huge and compounded by downtimes and construction delays.
Intelligent video surveillance systems reliably detect unauthorised individuals on the construction site and protect tools and raw materials against theft and vandalism. At the same time, they’re a cost-effective alternative or even addition to conventional site security. Correctly positioned, all regions are continuously monitored by cameras, including extensive areas and regions that are difficult to see.

How the video surveillance of bridge construction works functions
LivEye® video surveillance systems offer reliable protection against bridge construction theft and vandalism. Valuable raw materials such as steel and copper cable that are used during building works as well as expensive machinery are constantly monitored by the cameras. Every movement is detected by the smart LivEye® analysis software and identified as a person, animal, vehicle or recurring movement. The continuously staffed Video Monitoring & Alarm Centre is alerted in the case of suspicion. The operator on duty checks the alarm and takes appropriate follow-up measures. The person identified is spoken to and asked to leave the premises via the integrated loud-speaker system. If they ignore this demand, we inform the police.
The LivEye® One & One+ 230V video surveillance systems are mobile and can be used flexibly. Even use in remote areas without infrastructure poses no problems. Thanks to a corresponding power supply system, the LivEye® Pro 2.0 surveillance system can operate fully independently for a period of up to three months. An additional thermal camera or time-lapse camera can be added to the systems. As a result, they not only monitor the construction site at all times, but can also follow the construction progress of the bridge.
